Imagine my GLEE when I saw this en route to my morning coffee shop….
Pork Barrel BBQ is nearing completion! Secret Agent Man and I are SO excited for another good post-workout protein option.
We haven’t seen their menu yet, but we’re pretty certain we can navigate our way through it and come up with a pretty M.E.-friendly dinner, sticking with a lean grilled or smoked protein and veggies – and even a little of their kick-@$$ barbecue sauce! Pork Barrel’s original BBQ sauce was just named one of Men’s Health Magazine’s “Top 125 foods Best Foods For Men”:
“With only 35 calories, <1 gram of protein, and 8 grams of carbs, Pork Barrel BBQ’s Original BBQ Sauce is great slapped, “on chicken just minutes before it comes off the grill for a tangy, smoky flavor.”
I’m still waiting for the Pork Barrel boys to release their Carolina-style BBQ sauces, but until then, I’ll settle for the restaurant being open. Del Ray NEEDS BBQ. Who doesn’t?

As a kid growing up in the Del Ray area of Alexandria, the only good place back then was the Dixie Pig. With it being long gone now Alexandria was left to it’s own devices until till soon.
Not to take away from any local franchises, but a pit is one thing and a oven is another.
I, along with Q look forward to Del Ray being the birth place of great BBQ. And am also happy to hear they kick’en a Carolina style sauce.
I never got to try the Dixie Pig, but I have always looked at that sign (which is still there!) and wondered how good their food was back in the day!
Your sauce is amazing! I’m sure your restaurant will be, too! Just one question…What’s for dessert?
Let me know when it opens! Jeff and I love BBQ! We’lll swing on down to Del Ray and check it out with you!
It’s a DOUBLE DATE, Chase! Y’all will love it!
